STRATEGIC VISION

USING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TO ANALYSE CITIES

Team: Politecnico di Milano

The city of Amsterdam is analyzed on bike friendliness of its roads from a user point of view. Amsterdam was chosen because of its world-famous popularity in terms of biking. The analysis was done by collecting data (images of the city) from Google Street View and letting machines analyse a very big set of data. The data was analyzed using the object detection method and artificial intelligence. The results are maps showing the locations of the detected objects found in the images of the city. Different maps analysed by AI with the object detection method are compared with the map of the road accidents in order to find correlations. The conclusion is that road accidents in Amsterdam doesn't happen on places with traffic signs, traffic lights, and streetlights.
